What are the major organs associated with your body system?

- Mouth- Exchanges gases. Inhales oxygen and exhales CO2.
- Lungs- The Lungs oxygenate the blood and carry the oxygenated blood to the areas that need it.
- Bronchi- Carry the air directly to the lungs.
- Trachea- Filters the air that we breath in and branches into the bronchi.

What are the 3 functions of your body system?
- Is in charge of breathing in O2 and breathing out CO2.
- helps with the red blood cells in bloodstream .
- Breathing, inhaling, and exhaling.

Main Function of the body system.
- The main function of the Respiratory System is to supply the blood with oxygen, so that it can be delivered to the rest of the body.
- One of the main functions of the Respiratory System is bringing oxygen into the body to use for nutrients and discarding of Carbon Dioxide that could be harmful to the human body.

Other interesting information about the respiratory system- Each bronchiole ends in a tiny chamber that looks like a cluster of grapes. This structure is known as Alveoli.
- The walls of the Aveoli, which are only one cell thick, are the respiratory surface.
- Emphysema- By producing an Enzyme inhibitor called (a Serpin) or alpha-1 antitrypsin.
- Chronic Bronchitis- During Chronic Bronchitis, the air passages become clogged with mucus, which leads to a persistent cough. Chronic Bronchitis is closely associated with cigarette smoking.
- When resting, you take 12-25 breathes per minute.
- 300 alveoli can be found in one set of human lungs.
- The average person breathes in the equivalent 13 pints of air each minute.
- The Right Lung is slightly bigger than the left.
- The breathing rate is faster in children and women than in men.
- The surface area of the lungs is roughly the same size as a tennis court.

What are the disorders that afflict this system?
- Emphysema or Lung Cancer
- Asthma
- Chronic Bronchitis
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

How does the disorder affect the body system?
- Emphysema- Chronic Lung Condition that affects the alveoli, shortness of breath, weight loss, fatigue, and heart problems.
- Asthma- Loss of breath and wheezing.
Causes
- Emphysema- Smoking and air pollution
- Asthma- Constriction of the bronchi and bronchioles. Caused by Allergens, dust, smoke, and mold.
- Asthma Attacks can be mostly triggered by Fumes and Cigarette smoke.
- Airborne particles to which the person is allergic.
- Chronic Bronchitis- The Hallmark of Chronic Bronchitis is a continuing loose, wet cough that produces excessive amounts of mucus.
- COPD- The causes are cigarette smoking, and Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder caused by inheriting 2 defective genes.
Irritation of the Lungs.
Treatments
- Nicotine chewing gum
- Nicotine Patch external image 9939.jpg
- Nicotine inhaler or nasal spray
- Asthma - Inhaler

Prevention
- Emphysema - Avoid Secondhand smoke, and avoid smoking.
- Asthma - No possible way to prevent Asthma except, to move to a better environment.

What other systems does your body system work with to maintain homeostasis?
-The Respiratory System and the Circulatory System work together to ensure that organ
tissues receive enough oxygen. Oxygen is needed for all cell functions. The air that we
breath in, gets transferred to the bloodstream.
